Hi, I’m Miriam Duskis.
Welcome to arttherapyisrael.com! I’m an art therapist with a private practice in art therapy in Israel. You’re personally invited to take a look at my recent blog posts and post comments. For those of you with questions, here are some answers that should help. If you’d like to know more, please contact me.
What is art therapy?
In art therapy, I’ll help you use art as a tool to re-experience your life in a fresh and new way. Then, working together, we’ll use these insights to help you make the changes that you want to achieve.
Is art therapy therapeutic for adults?
Of course. In fact, I work mostly with adult women age 18+ who are looking for a safe place to express themselves by doing therapeutic art activities to help them reach their goals.
What will I do in art therapy?
In addition to therapeutic art activities, your therapy might include a combination of other treatment modalities, (such as CBT, DBT, and/or mindfulness) tailor-made to help you get to where you want to be.
I am not artistic at all. Can I still do art therapy?
Absolutely. You don’t need to be able to draw a straight line to benefit from art therapy. The latest neuroscientific research shows that doing art activates regions in the right side of the brain that contribute to healing and well-being. Doing art is good for you, even if you are not an artist.
How is art therapy advantageous to me?
Because we use art a lot, we don’t need to rely on talking to get to issues that are difficult to speak about. In fact, if you’ve experienced trauma, art is more likely to help you process your experience and feel safe again. Also, art activates the same part of the brain that experiences flow, a sense of being one with an activity, and an important component of life satisfaction.
Can I do art therapy online?
Meeting with you face-to-face has many advantages, but that’s not always possible. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, I’ve been doing online or phone art therapy sessions exclusively. If you need teleheath, let me know so that we can work it out.
I’d like to experience art therapy. How many sessions will it will take?
It depends. There are a lot of unknown factors that can affect how many sessions you’d need. This would be a good conversation for us to have when we first meet, and you can do some real life art therapy and see what it’s like for you.
How long is each session and how much does it cost?
Each session is 50 minutes. The cost is 300 NIS or $90.
What are your credentials?
I graduated in 2007 with a masters degree in art therapy (MAAT) from Albertus Magnus College (New Haven, CT).
Where are you located?
My art therapy practice is located in Givat Ze’ev, Israel. Contact me today to set up a time to meet one another.
